Trillium
National Shrine of Our Sorrowful Mother, Portland, Oregon

The late Hugh Morton -- "caretaker" of North Carolina's Grandfather Mountain -- once rebuked me when I complained about the lack of photographic opportunities in the fog and rain. "That's the best time," he said -- and more often than not his advice is sage. The rain was coming down all day in the Portland area (not uncommon but usually lets up by late morning) and I had pulled into the parking lot of "The Grotto" when I saw this trillium at the edge of the lot. It was worth getting my boots muddy to record this image.
